Our vision is to be a home that looks like heaven in Seattle. A community of people from all backgrounds encountering Jesus, in community, growing in faith, and seeking the spiritual renewal of our city.
Ryan and Janelle have been married for over 10 years and currently reside in the city with their two young children Levi and Chloe. Ryan grew up in NYC and moved to Seattle as a teenager and Janelle was born and raised in the Northwest. They’ve served together in ministry in a wide range of capacities together throughout the years. Ryan is the lead and founding pastor of Banner. Janelle is enjoying this season as a mom and spending time with our community. Both have a passion to connect with people, build the local church, and see communities experience the presence of God.
Banner Seattle is a multigenerational and multiethnic church which holds to historic Christian beliefs as outlined in the Nicene Creed, the Apostles Creed, and the Lausanne Creed. We are biblically grounded, Jesus-centered, Spirit-led, community driven, and mission minded.
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made. Who, for us men for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceedeth from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spake by the prophets. I believe one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and buried; He descended into hell. The third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
There is one God: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit — three in one, co-equal and co-eternal.
Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Genesis 1:26
We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God: His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles, atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension to the right hand of the Father, His constant intercession, and His imminent return.
John 1:1–14; Luke 1:26–35; Hebrews 4:15; Romans 8:34; Acts 1:9–11
We believe in the person and work of the Holy Spirit. His presence empowers the Church today through His gifts and produces fruit in the life of every believer.
Acts 1:8; Galatians 5:22–23; 1 Corinthians 12:4–11
The Bible is the living Word of God — infallible, authoritative, everlasting, and the foundation of all Christian doctrine and practice.
2 Timothy 3:16–17; Hebrews 4:12; Matthew 24:35
We believe in the existence of an evil spiritual being known as the devil, who opposes the purposes of God and seeks to deceive and destroy.
1 Peter 5:8; John 10:10; Revelation 12:9
We believe that all people are spiritually lost apart from Christ and in essential need of new birth through faith in Jesus. Salvation is by grace through faith, not by works.
John 3:3–7; Romans 3:23; Ephesians 2:8–9
We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit as a gift available to all believers. We also affirm the sacraments of the Lord’s Supper and water baptism by full immersion as commands for every follower of Jesus.
Acts 2:38–39; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26; Romans 6:3–4
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost — those in Christ to eternal life, and those who reject Him to eternal separation from God.
John 5:28–29; Daniel 12:2; Revelation 20:11–15
We believe the Church is the body of Christ, called to gather in local communities and fulfill the Great Commission by making disciples of all nations. Every member is called to play an active part.
Matthew 28:19–20; 1 Corinthians 12:12–27; Hebrews 10:24–25
We believe marriage was instituted by God, affirmed by Jesus, and is a covenant between one man and one woman. It is a sacred picture of Christ and His Church.
Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4–6; Ephesians 5:31–32
We believe sex is a gift from God designed for unity and procreation within marriage. Sex is reserved for the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. We believe sexual desire is a natural part of being human and that our experiences of sexuality deeply shape how we live. Sexuality can be a source of both joy and pain, and everyone — regardless of orientation or relationship status — needs clarity, kindness, and hope. We believe Jesus offers the ultimate hope for our sexuality, inviting us into freedom, wholeness, and love. As the author of sex and intimacy, God’s design is good, and wherever you are in your journey, all are welcome to come to Jesus.
